🌱 Concentrated Solar

Source

Concentrated solar uses mirrors to heat up something (sand, oil, etc) and then use that to heat water to make steam to turn a turbine which makes electricity.

The sand can store the heat for 15 + hours.

Some green power plants produce too much power currently. They have to throttle their output or be chared overages.

Storage is still one of the key issues with renewable energy (sun isn’t always shining, wind isn’t always blowing).

This is made more complex by the grid being on demand which roughly means that the power inputs and outputs need to be equal at all times.
