🌱 Electricity Basics

Source

Volts Force, energy potential, like pressure of water in a pipe. Determines compatibility between components. Batteries and appliances must match.

Amps Amount of electricity flowing through a wire. Determines how big a wire needs to be. How thick a water hose is. Allows you to transmit more electricity at a time.

Watts Rate of volts * amps

Fuse Size

Wire Gauge If a wire isn’t big enough to take the amps it will overheat.

AC Alternating current. Oscillation of charge. There is no flow. Current vibrates like a wave in the ocean, the energy moves not the water.

DC Direct current, has positive and negative lead. Electrical charge flows in a circuit. Like a river

Conductor Transmits electricity

Insulator Does not transmit electrity
